Endorsements
From February 1st 2007, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and WYSE Travel Confederation will work in partnership to promote and develop this multi-billion dollar niche market.
Throughout 2007 and beyond, the partnership agreement between WYSE Travel Confederation and UNWTO will provide Confederation members with an unprecedented opportunity to make government leaders and tourism authorities around the world more aware of the importance of youth, student and educational travel.
This will be achieved by: - Compiling research and publishing a ‘Youth Travel Compendium of Research’ which includes data on the behaviour of youth travellers and the impact of youth travel experiences on attitudes and values, as well as a survey of youth and student tourism policy worldwide. This report will be used to encourage governments to actively support and market youth tourism products and services. - Organising seminars and events for government officials, national tourism authorities, educational specialists and commercial sector leaders to increase awareness of the importance of youth and student travel niche market. - Promoting responsible travel habits and practices, as well as the sustainable development of tourism. Mr Francesco Frangialli, Secretary General of UNWTO and David Jones, Director General of WYSE Travel Confederation signed the Co-operation Agreement on 1st February during the FITUR Travel Fair in Madrid, Spain.
Research Compendium to be compiled by United Nations World Tourism Organisation and World Youth Student & Educational Travel Confederation In 2007 the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the World Youth Student & Educational Travel Confederation will jointly prepare and issue a compendium of research on student and youth travel. This publication promises to become a "must-have" report for business and government leaders responsible for understanding the dynamics of a vitally important a ?3 billion/year global niche industry phenomenon. UNWTO will publish this reference manual as an official report in at least three languages and widely promote the availability of this report to governments, tourism authorities, academics, press and the travel industry. IAEWEP and GWEA merge to create the WYSE Work Abroad Association In October 2006 the Global Work Experience Association (GWEA) and the International Association of Educational Work Exchange Programmes (IAEWEP) founded the WYSE Work Abroad Association. WYSE Work Abroad is a trade association bringing together organisations active in all aspects of work abroad programmes. WYSE Work Abroad sets and maintains standards of best practice and liaises with governments to encourage and support WYSE Work Abroad members and work abroad programmes worldwide. WYSE Work Abroad Association works to facilitate and increase international youth travel and exchange through the promotion of culturally-oriented work exchange / experience activities aimed at providing young people greater knowledge and understanding of other cultures. Proposal to create Youth Accommodation Association A leading group of accommodation providers are spearheading an exciting initiative, to form a Youth Travel Accommodation sector association within the new global youth and student travel organisation, the World Youth Student & Educational Travel Confederation. The new association would combine all sectors of the global youth accommodation industry and bring a strong voice to this multi billion euro industry made up of thousands of hostels, hotels and residences around the world. Plans to create this united Youth Accommodation Industry association will be presented for approval by representatives of the industry in October 2006 at the World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC), Melbourne, Australia.

In 2006 the Federation of International Youth Travel Organisations (FIYTO) and the International Student Travel Confederation (ISTC) merged to create a united organisation to represent the international education, student and youth travel community.
